Announcements

Mark Werum wants auction items that will attract more females to enter the bidding on March 27. Mark Ullrich listed many desirable oral auction items available so far, while Randy Blake mentioned the silent auction while advocating the purchase of raffle tickets which are still available from him, Don huff the 3rd, and others. See Pres. Bob about attending one of the 3 District Assemblies: 3/20 at Butte College, 4/17 at Solano College, or 5/1 at Shasta College, and learn the latest about new ways for foundations to manage local projects. The joint meeting with Colusa  Rotarians at the Colusa Country Club will be on April 20. This Saturday's Rotary Park project from 9 to noon will involve pulling down bracing and setting beams, as well as other feats of demolition and carpentry too exciting to mention. Save 5 dollars and attend the annual Mystery Golf Trip on April 28; signups start now.

Birthdays

    None.

Anniversaries

Tom Schwarzgruber, 17 years ago in Woodland.

Recognition

President Bob derived inspiration from Bobby Knight and John Wooten, who stressed, respectively, the importance of having the will to prepare to win, and that failing to prepare was preparing to fail. Bob would have paid their fines had they attended today. Bob Seney claims he won't go to any more antique road shows- their loss, not his. Don Huff reports the Woodland Sunrisers came 3rd at the Tahoe City ski meet, the Truckee club coming in 1st. Tim, Ben, and George  Berrettoni have a common scouting heritage. Todd knew it; George Burger and Tony Delevati paid. Steve Venables has Vida Blue to play golf with, wants 2 more; bring money. David Janes wore green or grey, depending on your color discernment. Don Junior informs us that grandson Brandon Huff now has a 2-year-old service dog  which is 3 parts lab and 1 part golden, and has a carload of tricks. Rigo's wrist fracture support will come off tomorrow, and he's decided to given up throwing his putter for Lent- at least not where it can land on him...

Rags to Riches

Missed it.

Today’s Program:  Assistant Sheriff Tom Lopez described the ongoing financial conundrum facing his department, which attempts to balance public safety needs amid substantial budget cuts. Last year, these were reduced from 5 to 3 million dollars, with 10 layoffs. This year, another 4.7 million will be saved by laying off 14 deputy sheriffs and closing the Weinberger Detention Facility, with the release of 140 inmates. The State Department of  Corrections will soon release more inmates who will return to our community. The safety implications for Woodland and nearby communities was described. These unsettling facts were presented succinctly, dispassionately and accurately. Stay tuned for more bad news.
