What do Rotarians to?   "Pay it forward..."

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Mark Werum, President 2010-11

Welcome to our website, an on-line introduction to the Rotary Club of Woodland

(better known as the Woodland Rotary Club).

If you are visiting this site to learn more about Rotary and especially the Woodland

Rotary Club because of an interest in membership, feel free to contact me at (530) 662-7632.

The Woodland Rotary Club, chartered in 1926, was the first Rotary club in town.

In fact, this Club has started the two other Clubs (Sunrise and Luna Vista) in Woodland.

We are an active organization of men and women devoted to the principles of Rotary

International and to this community.  Over 80 community members meet every Tuesday

for lunch.  Our goals this year include fun, fellowship, community service, and support of Rotary International's efforts to eliminate polio from the world, improve the health of the impoverished, educate the illiterate, and to generally improve the human environment.  Information on Rotary International's goals and programs can be found on its website, Rotary.org.  Locally, we intend to focus this year on the literary and educational needs in the Woodland community.

Following the Rotary International motto of “service above self” the Rotary Club of Woodland has donated funding towards worldwide polio eradication, prosthetic hands in southeast Asia, and a new water well in India.  In addition, the club is painting maps outlining the states of the union on playgrounds of local schools and annually hosts a BBQ for seniors at Rotary Park, and a high school speech contest, and awards college scholarships at both local high schools.  The club also sponsors a student leadership camp (Camp Royal) and a Rotary youth program (Interact), both for high school students.  Past local projects have included the gazebo in Freeman Park, and ball field score boards at Pioneer High School.

If you want to make a difference in your community and in the world, Rotary is the organization for you.  Hope you will join us.

Mark Werum

President 2010-2011
