Announcements

The President of the Davis club forgot to schedule a meeting with us so our annual joint meeting with Davis will now be later this year.  The Colusa joint meeting is scheduled for April 20 at the Colusa Country Club.  Mark Werum noted that we are on track for the annual auction dinner.  Please turn back any unused tickets so that we can pass them out to others that would like to attend.  Mark Ullrich and Duane Ewing are still trying to collect silent and oral auction items.  The next BOD meeting will be held at the Senior Center on Thursday the 11th.  Mark Werum is heading off to PETS this weekend.  Good luck Mark.  Rigo Torres volunteered to be the liaison for the Shade Project.  Plan on helping out if the weather is good every Saturday until the project is done.  Dona Mast said that the Beamer after school program has been a success.

Birthdays

Sorry – my notes show someone had a birthday on February 8, 1946, but I forgot to write the name down.

Anniversaries

None.

Recognition

Dr. Jim McGibbon was in charge today.  He started off with thankful time for the recent Olympic hockey game between the US and Canada.  Staying with his Olympic theme, Dr. Jim called on Clyde Brooker and Mahlon Whittle who answered their questions correctly.  Carla Sanborn skipped the theme and showed off her new “Who Dat” T-Shirt.  Rigo Torres, Karl Diekman, Tom Schwarzgruber and the Huffs II & III all were asked to participate.  Bob Griffith paid for his appreciation of a Tom Brokaw report that he saw during the Olympics.  And finally, Roger Dorris was thankful that the food item that his grandson stuck in his nose came out prior to reaching the emergency room.

Rags to Riches

Scott Johnston is not $273 richer, but he did win a free lunch!

Today’s Program

Dan Stroski introduced Chris Forsyth, an investigator with the Yolo Co. DA’s office.  Chris specializes in Insurance and Annuities fraud and Elder Abuse cases.  Yolo Co. is one of four counties in California that has a department like this.  A portion of every life insurance policy goes into a state fund that then helps fund positions like Chris’.  Chris stated that an insurance/annuity agent must fully disclose their full purpose prior to entering anyone’s home or business.  The criminals are very good at trying to gain the trust of the victim prior to selling the fraudulent policies.  The scammers sometime offer “free lunches” to get leads on their potential victims or have bogus websites set up.  Elder abuse is going to rise in the near future as the first year of baby boomers reaching the age 65 will be here soon. Only 1 in every 15 cases is reported.  Elder abuse covers a broad category ranging from domestic violence, physical and mental abuse to ID theft, check theft, contractor scams and sweetheart swindles.  Chris and Dan both asked everyone to contact their office if they have any questions or are suspicious about something in regards to these topics.
