Today's Meeting

President Bob Nakken called the meeting to order and asked Tom Schwarzgruber to lead the club in the pledge.  After the shock of being asked to lead the Club in Rotary Grace wore off, Christian Sherrill figured out that the grace started with his favorite word in golf.

Visiting Rotarians

Carla Sanborn introduced Gary Walgenbach from the Davis Noon club.

Announcements

President Bob Nakken announced that the District Governor’s visit has been rescheduled for February 16th.  Another program coming up in the near future is on the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts.  The Rotary Work Day has also been rescheduled for this upcoming Saturday between 9AM-3PM.  The more volunteers we have the merrier.  Our club will be dark on December 29th.  Amy Tran announced that the Woodland Rotary Clubs donated a total of $220 in cash, $175 in gift cards and 26 gifts to the Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree.  In total the charity donated over 550 gifts to local families.

Birthdays

Christian Sherrill turned 33 this past week, while Clancy Duppong celebrated the 34th anniversary of his 39th birthday.

Anniversaries

Frank Gardner announced that he and Shirley celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.  Frank was married in Reno, NV in 1948!

Rotary Foundation

Mahlon Whittle presented Duane Ewing with his Paul Harris Fellowship.  Duane may have set the record for the shortest time to become a Paul Harris Fellow (8 months).  Congratulations Duane.

Speaking of the Foundation, Mahlon Whittle announced that between now and the end of the month, there are matching funds available for any size donation.  This is would be a great time to meet your annual commitment.

Nominations

On December 7, 2009, 20 Past President’s met and nominated the following individuals for office; Tom Schwarzgruber (Sergeant At Arms),  Tony Delevati (Treasurer), Alan Flory (Secretary), Rigo Torres, Ben Pate and Tim Pettit (Directors) and…………….Dona Mast (2011/2012 President).

Recognition

Roger Dorris started off Recognition with Thankful Time.  Gary Bunch was excited about a recent trip to Oklahoma where he was able to shoot a white tail deer from what sounded like an indoor firing range.  Tim Bernard was happy that he was able to attend a meeting due to a change in his schedule and also prepaid for his upcoming anniversary.  Gary Wegener happily announced that his two daughters from DC will be out for Christmas.  Ben Pate was happy to have hosted his annual family Christmas Party and he was just as happy that it was over.  Bob Griffith was happy that his son was back in California.  Amy Tran was excited to have returned from her 10 year college graduation at UCLA.  Amy was even more excited that she did not have to give a speech (she was class President).  Tim Pettit was happy that his step son was back from a year in Baghdad. Roger then started calling on members to answer his questions.  Carey Sullivan, and for that matter Howard Newens, didn’t know that Howard was a card carrying member of the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor).  Rigo Torres, Jim Nolan, and Bob Moeller could not answer correctly the Christmas trivia questions.  Don Huff II could not name the three reindeers that start with the letter D.  George Berrettoni did not know that the grandma that got run over by a reindeer was going out for her medication.

Rags to Riches

Clancy Duppong missed out on $608, but he did win a free lunch.

Today’s Program

President Elect Mark Werum introduced former member Steve Fisher and Dani Biaggio.  Steve and Dani played their guitars and sang Christmas songs for the club.
