Dr. Tran is very active in providing care to underprivileged children. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Recognition
Bob Moeller was in charge today. Dan Stroski was thankful that his daughter broke up with her boyfriend. Mark Ullrich and Les Engelmann were thankful for being alive after playing golf with President Bob. Bob noted Dr. Tran was very generous for providing care packages for the members and asked all current member/dentists to pay up for not being as generous. Carl Rodegerdts did mention that he had a set of dentures that he was willing to part with. Dona Mast was recognized for helping give flu shots to the community. Bob Tamblyn made a brief comment about Kids Day for the Shriners. Herb was called on for being the first member of the Yolo Federal Credit Union. Herb was not around; neither was Clyde Brooker but Ron Maraviov made the donation for Herb. Bob switched to Wheat 101 and called on Greg Miramoto (aka: Craig Miyamoto) who noted that he was more of a rice eater than a wheat eater. Herb was called on again, and imagine that, he still wasn’t here. Dr. Jim McGibbon said that the 15 points that the Raiders scored was dismal. 15 points is going to look pretty good next week. Alan Flory paid up for the solid season that the Giants had. And finally, Dr. Amy Tran was recognized for being the newest member of the club.
Rags to Riches

After a successful internship, David Contto ran the freeloader this week and Chuck Moore was the big winner of……a free lunch.
Today’s Program
Dona Mast introduced Frank Ohnesorgen Principal of Beamer Elementary School. Principal Ohnesorgen spoke about Beamer’s Dual Immersion Program. Woodland is one of six cities that offer Dual Immersion (San Francisco, San Jose, Windsor, Santa Monica/Malibu and Oakland). The goal of the program is to have the students speak, read, and write two languages by the 6th grade. There are a total of 335 programs in 28 states, with 201 programs being offered in CA. Goals of Two-Way Immersion is to develop the students at high levels of proficiency in their first language, develop high levels of proficiency in a second language, and have the students demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors. The classes work best when they are balanced 50/50 with English and Spanish speaking children. The program asks that the parents commit their children to 5 to 7 years in the program, as studies have shown that this is how long it will take for them to develop academic proficiency in a second language.
