Recognition

Scott Johnston kept us laughing with his preformance. He first picked on the bright shirts worn by Tabb Randolph, Mark Ullrich and Gary Wirth. Carla is not only happy that her husband in at Burning Man and she is not, she is also thankful that she lives in California and not Little Rock. Gary Wegener motored up to the San Juan Islands, Kris Kristensen went some where nice (sorry I missed it), ex Pres Chuch Maltese has been every where but is home for awhile. Pat Imbach was happy his son and daughter did well at golfing. Marc Faye preseneted a Club flag from Russia to the President. Jim McGibbon welcomed his 10th grandchild and has two more on the way.  Scott contnued with ATTOURNEY jokes but the group had to guess the punch line. Well Christian Sherrill probably didn't get the question because he went on to tell us of his trip to San Juan Island at the age of 5. Gary Bunch, Gary Wirth, Aniek Ramsay and Tim Pettit did not have a punch line so paid. Kevin Harrgerg and Roger Dorris had a punch line, so David Janes and Randy Blake paid for them.

Rags to Riches

All I know is I did not win and whoever did win only got lunch.

Today’s Program

Howar Newens introduced Bill Martin the manager of Yolo County's Office of Emergency Services, (OES) . The office in Woodland has two staff members, Mr. Martin and The Emergency Services Planner. The OES mission is to coordinate the county's preparedness for  response to and and recovery from any real or potential threat impacting public safety, continuity of government operations, the functioning of essential services, property , and the environment. Mr. Martins emphasis was on disasters that could occur in Yolo County, He spoke of the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak and noted how different the world is now. Viruses can spread much easier with global travel, the closeness of citizens and of course the population numbers.

We all realize that life is a dangerous proposition but we make decisions every day and learn to problem solve. He asked us to think about how we access risk on a large scale. Some of the emergent threats we face are fire, storms, earthquakes and the one we face now the HiNi Flu. The background disaster events possible are rail (with a dangerous cargo), aircraft accidents (we are in the path of airlines from Sac Metro and from Mather Air Base. We are an agricultural based community with tank trucks carrying  hazardous materials on our roads as well. Power failure is another disaster threat we have faced and could again. Globaly we could face nuclear proliferation, water supply depletion and socio economic instability. Our capacity for survival is paramont  in any disaster.

The Yolo County OES is in contact with the California Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on a daily basis.
