Incoming President Bob Nakken distributed draft copies of the 2009-10 Club Committee Roster showing who is signed up for which committee next year. He urged members to review the draft and let him know of any necessary changes as soon as possible since he hopes to present a final Committee Roster at next week’s meeting. Bob said the Club still needs additional members to sign up for the Splinter Committee.
Mahlon Whittle also reminded us that June is the last month that matching funds are authorized for donations toward Rotary Foundation. See Mahlon soon if you wish to take advantage of this opportunity. The Foundation will be changing matching donation rules starting next month.
Birthdays
Don Huff, Jr celebrated his 83rd birthday (Woodland) today and the Club sang “Happy Birthday” in his honor.
Anniversaries

Bob and Helene Dorris celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary (Woodland).
Recognition
Bob Nakken led off by fining Craig Miyamoto, Kevin Haarberg, Scott Johnston, Mark Ullrich, Tony Delevati, Gary Bunch, and George Berrettoni for participating in the Edward Jones’ golf tournament at Yolo Fliers last Tuesday instead of attending the Club’s regular meeting.
Tom Schwarzgruber paid for the Kentucky Derby party he held at his home last month.
Bob asked a series of “what happened on this date in history”, as well as Rotary knowledge questions to Roy Holmes, Bob Dorris, Mark Werum, Roger Dorris, Ben Pate, Duane Ewing, Steve Venables, Mary Trongo and Chuck Moore. Few accurate answers were provided. Frank Gardner was also fined because he likes baseball.
Mark Ullrich and Todd Tommeraason were happy to attend the Pioneer High School graduation ceremony last week.
Peter Faye was happy his grandson graduated from high school; on the first try!
Carla Sanborn was happy about returning from ‘back to back’ cruises to Alaska.
Noting the recent publicity received by Shriners Hospital, Mahlon Whittle was proud of Bob Tamblyn’s role with the Shriners. When Bob had Don McNary pay Tamblyn’s fine, Don was happy his hearing aid batteries had failed. Bob, who is Chairman of the Shriner’s Hospital Board of Governors, gave an update on the Shriner’s efforts to help the victims of the recent day care center fire in Mexico.
Rags to Riches

Carey Sullivan won $42 and promptly donated the sum to the Shriners via Bob Tamblyn.
Today’s Program
Dona Mast introduced Esparto native Joe Gwerder as today’s speaker. Gwerder, who grew up in farming, is today the founder and owner of Constant Energy Source of Woodland. Joe distributed materials about his organization and solar power systems for residential, commercial and agricultural use. These materials can also be seen at the company’s website: www.constantenergysource.com . Joe feels that solar energy is no longer just a ‘fad’; the improvement in equipment in recent years means that payoff of initial investment in a solar system is very likely before the end of the equipment’s life span. He answered a series of questions regarding the impact of solar systems on roofing, positioning panels for proper exposure, obtaining necessary installation permits, and others. Joe also pointed out that solar panels work on ambient light, not the sun’s heat. The cost of a system is best obtained by a brief meeting with a company representative and an analysis of the building’s energy costs over at least one year. Joe Gwerder can be reached at 530 681-1128.
