Today's Meeting

President Chuck opened the meeting at 12:20pm on a cool, overcast day.  Tim Pettit led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance and Mark Faye started us in Rotary Grace.

President Chuck welcomed Sherry Puntillo, President of the Davis Rotary Club.

Visiting Rotarians

Ron Maraviov introduced Mike Robinson (Davis Noon Rotary) and Phil Marler (Woodland Sunrise Rotary Club).

Guests of Rotarians

Dona Mast introduced Allison Perkes. Peter Faye introduced his daughter Susan Melanson.

Announcements

President Chuck announced that past Woodland Rotarian, Dr. Donell C. Fisher, a long time Club member and past President (1946-47), left a Will which provides for some yet to be determined sum to be used for Rotary scholarships…more news later, hopefully.

Dona Mast is still selling $100 ducks for the June 25th Woodland Healthcare Foundation ‘Duck Pluck’ fundraiser benefitting the Cancer Nurse Navigator Program. Dona also asked for anyone who can “loan” storage space to the Yolo County Red Cross for storage of emergency/disaster supplies.

Randy Blake has tickets to sell for the June 20th Woodland Opera House annual dinner/auction fundraiser @ $30 per person.

Mahlon Whittle reminded us of the Tuesday, June 30th Demotion Meeting at the Yolo Fliers Club: $35 per person; 6pm no-host cocktails/7pm dinner & program. Please RSVP Aniek Ramsay at Aniek@vanbeurden.com.

Incoming President Bob Nakken, announced that the Club’s new Board has already met twice; that next year’s dues will remain unchanged from this year’s;  fines, which support over 10% of the Club’s budget, will also remain unchanged; but the weekly 50-50 raffle will see some changes to make it more interesting and generate more money.

Mahlon brought a surprised Susan Melanson (Peter’s daughter), to the podium where she was presented with a pin in recognition of a $2000 donation recently made in her name by the Faye’s to Rotary Foundation.

Mahlon also reminded us that June is the last month that matching funds are authorized for donations toward Rotary Foundation. See Mahlon soon if you wish to take advantage of this opportunity.

Mike Chandler announced that a group of 15 regulars hoping to form a new Capay Valley Rotary Club have been meeting regularly on Thursdays at the Yocha-De-He Casino. Chuck added that the Woodland Rotary Club Board has recently approved a $200 donation to be made to both the Capay Valley Club and the new Davis Sunset Club to help them get started.

Birthdays

    Marilyn Faye…no details provided.

Anniversaries

None this week.

Recognition

Pam Vargas led the effort. Les Engelmann, during a recent golf outing in Reno involving several Club members, was sad to witness two members drive off and leave their golf clubs behind…Less would not give names, but added that one was short with a beard, while the other was a retired gynecologist. Hmmm.

Pam educated Tabb Randolph, Mark Faye, Dona Mast, Bruce Ahlquist, Clancy Duppong, Christian Sherrill, Ben Pate and Randy Blake about the many services provided by various local non-profit organizations supported by United Way. Only Tabb and Christian were able to provide the right answers. We all know better now.

Rags to Riches

Guest speaker Christine Golden won $44.

Today’s Program

Howard Newens introduced Christine Golden, a Florida educated linguistic practitioner and writer, as well as current Woodland area resident, who spoke about Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP started in the 1970s at UC Santa Cruz as a model of interpersonal communication concerning the relationship between successful patterns of behavior and the subjective experiences underlying them. Originally intended as a form of psychological therapy, NLP now focuses on the study or ‘modeling’ of how successful or outstanding people in different fields attain their results. NLP has had a big influence in the management training, life coaching and self-help industry. Christine will respond to questions about NLP and can be reached at 530 219-3182 or at Christine@SunhouseCA.net.
