Today's Meeting 

President Chuck Maltese called the meeting to order at 12:15 and called on Les Engelmann to lead the club in the pledge.  Jim McGibbon then led Rotary Grace.

Bob Seney introduced former member Loretta Honeywell.

 

Announcements

Chuck acknowledged Gary Wegener, Don McNary, Howard Newens, Tod Reddish and Rigo Torres for their efforts on obtaining program speakers over the past several months.  Aniek Ramsay was recognized for her work on the Senior BBQ.  Alan Flory announced that the Gibson May Fair went well and our club was able to donate over a thousand dollars to the museum.   Chuck also read a letter from the Opera House thanking our club for the new landscaping.  Dona Mast is selling ducks for the WHC Foundation.  Chuck will be attending the local award/scholarship events at the local high schools this week to present our two annual scholarships.

 

Birthdays

    Chuck put out an APB for Roger Kohlmeier who celebrated a birthday some time ago but has been AWOL.

 

Anniversaries 

  Rigo Torres celebrated his 12th anniversary on May 18th.  Bob Griffith was given his early warning.  Bob will be celebrating his 56th wedding anniversary on the 23rd.

 

 Recognition

Jim McGibbon led recognition and immediately called on all of those who had not yet voted, or were not going to vote, and asked them to donate $5.  Jim quickly moved on to those who did not help out at the Senior BBQ.  Tim Pettit got the deal of the day when he had to pay only $1 for his new badge.  Aniek Ramsay, Chuck Moore and Clyde Brooker all paid for Salmon BBQ photos.  Les Engelmann paid $5 so he would not have to stand up anymore.  Steve Venables was proud of his son for going back to school to become a teacher.  Kevin Haarberg paid $5 for his trip to South Dakota.  David Janes proudly announced that he is a three time grandfather.  Mahlon Whittle paid for his wife’s successful foot surgery.  Jenna Green was happy that she made it to Rotary and happy to have her seven year old in braces.  Don Smith was proud of his granddaughter’s achievements.

After what felt like forever, David Contto finally won.

 

Today’s Program

Don McNary introduced Kathy Glatter, MD, from the Department of Cardiology.  Kathy said that her business has been very busy and she would like it if none of us had to come see her.  Dr. Glatter said that the best ways to avoid a heart attack are 1) control hypertension 2) know your lipid panel 3) don’t smoke 4) control diabetes and 5) exercise, avoid obesity.  Dr. Glatter recommended that everyone should have a home blood pressure machine.  She looks for blood pressure in the 130/70 range.
