His company helps clients develop and commercialize pesticides for the agricultural industry. Duane is married and has three daughters. Welcome Duane.
Paul Harris
Mahlon Whittle presented Bob Tamblyn with a new Rotary pin that has two stones representing his $3,000 in contributions. Congratulations Bob.
Today’s Program
Tod Reddish introduced David Anderson, a Student Resident Fire Fighter, from UC Davis. David started off his program by saying that he was not comfortable speaking to large groups and that he was going to show a video to explain the program. Murphy’s Law kicked in and the speakers on the computer wouldn’t reach 11 (for all those Spinal Tap fans). David started at UCD in 2003 and graduated in 2007. He is now the training coordinator for the program. The resident firefighters live at the station and are required to work a few shifts a month to pay for their room and board. The program is very competitive. Over 200 applicants apply every other year for 6 to 12 positions. The students have to prepare written applications, followed by physical agility tests, and then formal interviews. Once they clear all of those hurdles there is a three week academy that is very competitive. There are only three universities that have active programs. Training is a cornerstone of any fire department and UCD is no different. The firefighters are always training and are going on active calls to improve their skills. For someone shy about talking in front of a large group, David did a great job.
